Future-Facing Frames: AI Headshots at Soaring 2025
When you think “photo booth”, you probably imagine props, group hugs, and a little chaos in the best way. But at the Soaring: Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering, hosted in April 2025 at the Vancouver Convention Centre, Vancity Photo Booth showed up with something a little different — something that wasn’t just fun, but future-focused.
Instead of boas and silly glasses, we brought AI-powered professional headshots — designed for students to use on resumes, LinkedIn profiles, school applications, and wherever else their next chapter might take them.
An Activation with Purpose
Soaring: Indigenous Youth Empowerment Gathering was all about opening doors. It brought together Indigenous high school students from across the country to explore post-secondary options, learn about career paths, and connect with programs and employers who believe in their potential.
So when Vancity Photo Booth was invited to be part of the experience, we knew we didn’t just want to capture smiles — we wanted to create something useful. Something empowering. Something that said, “You belong here.”
That’s where the AI Headshot Booth came in.
How It Worked
Students stepped into our Selfie Station and took a few clean, well-lit photos. Within seconds, our AI tech processed the image into a polished, professional-looking headshot — complete with natural enhancements, soft background blurs, and subtle lighting corrections. Think “studio portrait” vibes, without the awkward lighting setup or price tag.
The photos were instantly available via QR code or SMS — ready to download, post, or attach to the application that could change everything.
No downloads. No fuss. Just instant, high-quality content with a purpose.
Why It Mattered
The energy in the booth was different. Students walked away proud. For many, it was their first time seeing themselves through a professional lens — literally. We overheard someone say, “Wait… I actually look like someone who could do this.” And honestly? That’s the moment we were there for.
